Inspection and Remediation Protocols for Chinese Drywall

Beginning in 2004, in order to meet the demand associated with a residential housing boom, significant quantities of drywall were imported from China. The use of this drywall from certain Chinese manufacturers has been reported to emit sulfur gases and linked to corrosion of copper products such as pipes and electrical wires. In response, US Risk Management has been performing the evaluation of properties containing reactive drywall across a multitude of Southern states, in order to identify the presence and location of reactive drywall. US Risk Management staff has been collecting extensive data in the field, in support of further response actions at each property. As a result of these inspections, US Risk Management is working with our clients to prepare protocols for remediation of properties containing this drywall. US Risk Management has also performed environmental clearance inspections and certifications at properties, following the remediation of each property. Our environmental and industrial hygiene personnel, working with property owners, attorneys, claims specialists, estimators and contractors, have worked to enforce strict quality control procedures.
