Convention Center Disaster Recovery
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, United States Risk Management, L.L.C. (USRM) was selected to perform the environmental damage assessment on the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. Over three million square feet in size, the Convention Center is the key component in New Orleans' ability to be considered one of the largest convention markets nationwide. USRM's team of toxicologists, scientists and industrial hygiene technicials were tasked with assessing indoor air quality conditions, water quality conditions and identifying damaged areas of the building as follows:
- Collection of indoor air quality samples to determine the presence of mold & bacteria
- Evaluation of water quality to ensure water provided to Convention Center personnel & guests meet the Environmental Protection Agency drinking water standards
- Identification of interior structural damage related to mold & moisture & associated recommendation of remediation efforts
- Collection of air quality clearance samples once remediation efforts were completed to ensure proper air quality conditions were realized
- Assessment of kitchen areas to ensure proper cleaning methods were utilized
During this process, USRM coordinated all efforts with the insurance company, remediation contractor, and claims adjustors as necessary. Upon completion, USRM will provide the insurance company with a report outlining the analysis of all air and water quality samples collected, assessment of all interior mold or moisture damaged areas and identifying the cause and origin of each of these areas.
